Architecture of Nuclear Roadmap

The roadmap framework based on Roadmapping Technology’s Strategist roadmap environment, allows to map all relationships between the different energy industry sectors, products/services and technologies and allows to link organisation-specific roadmaps to these industry sector specific or overall energy technology roadmaps. This functionality allows to truly grasp the time-evolving technology development needs based on the facilitated expert-based updating of this roadmap environment. In fact, a growing community of organisations involved in this energy technology roadmapping will automatically improve the representativeness and completeness of the master roadmap serving the community at large.

The nuclear energy technology roadmap, www.nuclear-roadmap.net is aimed at creating one single master nuclear energy technology roadmap covering the information gathered in various roadmap exercises and validated through continuous expert reviews and application in nuclear energy technology development organizations. This so-called master nuclear energy technology roadmap allows to

      • Share a common vision among different partners
      • Have a integrated picture on R&D, i.e. ‘Know-why’, ‘Know-what’, ‘Know-how’ and ‘Know-when’
      • Broaden the scope and structure of knowledge gathering
      • Improve the quality of information used to make R&D decisions
      • Have accessible, shared information base and knowledge management
      • Minimizing duplication of effort
      • Providing commitment of all involved
      • Facilitate the management of networks of excellence and internationally integrated project

The master nuclear energy technology roadmap consists of essentially three layers (see figure):

  • Market layer, i.e. ‘Know-Why’
    • Covers the market and competitive strategy for nuclear energy in the more global energy market place. The ‘Knwo-why’-layer gives insight in the external influences (drivers) that define opportunities and the window for succesfull market penetration.
  • Product layer, i.e. ‘Know-What’
    • The ‘Know-what’-layer covers the product/service/project development and evolution plans with defined key strategic attributes allowing organisations respond to the key drivers and opportunities indicated in the environment layer.
  • Technology layer, i.e. ‘Know-How’
    • The ‘Know-how’-layer details the science and technology development plans.

Organisation-specific technology roadmaps may be organised in again a three-layer structure where the organisation’s market layer is in fact coïnciding with the product layer of the master nuclear energy technology roadmap.
