    Introduction

The development of energy technology to serve our future energy needs in a safe, economic and environmental friendly way demands a growing international collaboration among the various partners involved in such technology development. From basic science to technology development and engineering prototyping, various collaborative consortia among universities, governmental R&D-organisations, companies and (inter)governmental organisations are established in favour of sharing the resources, investments and risks in such rather long-term technology development.

A prerequisite for such collaborative frameworks is a shared vision among the various partners on the possible avenues of science and technology development while respecting each other’s competitive and commercial interests. In addition, the deregulated and more competitive nature of the energy market as well as the challenges ahead to expand today’s energy conversion park demands for shorter technology development times to cope with the shorter business cycles in such competitive markets.

Several energy technology roadmap studies have been performed in the past seeking consensus building among various organisations for the paths forward for energy technology development. All roadmap studies have resulted in detailed documented reports but continuation and updating of the roadmap information has not been a major activity by the various roadmap initiatives. In addition, important synergies between the various roadmap studies are currently essentially embedded in tacit knowledge. Making this knowledge explicit via a master nuclear energy technology roadmap will definitely contribute to a better dissemination and technology transfer supporting a vision building among all stakeholders.

This Nuclear-Roadmap.net portal specifically offers access to a unique master nuclear roadmap environment which is continuously updated based on the latest nuclear technology foresight and roadmap studies and regularly verified by use of expert surveys.
